Angers Sporting Club de l'Ouest is commonly called Angers SCO or simply Angers (French pronunciation [aZe]) is an French professional football team based within Angers situated in Pays de la Loire located in the west of France. The club was established in 1919, and currently plays in Ligue 1, the first division of Football in France after being promoted to league play in 2015 following 21 years. It hosts home games in the Stade Raymond Kopa. The club has played for 23 years within the Ligue 1.

1. History

The team was established in 1919, which was the same year that the FFF was established.

In the history of the team the team has been a bouncing between the top two levels at various times. However, it also spent periods in the middle tier numerous occasions. The season of 2006-07 was its final year in the 3rd level.

The very first season Angers began to play in the French second division took place in 1945. The season that Angers SCO played in was 1945. Angers SCO was placed in the North group. At the time this division had been divided into two groups: North and the South. Angers came third in the table, finishing seven points less than Stade Francais, who was elevated into the 1st division.

For the season 2014-15, the team was in Ligue 2 season, the team was promoted after a lengthy period at the bottom of the league.

In the 2015-16 Ligue 1 season, SCO was ranked ninth in the standings. In the league's first match in the league against Montpellier HSC, Angers beat Montpellier HSC 2-0.

On May 28th in 2017, Angers took part during the 2017 Coupe de France final against Paris Saint-Germain. Angers lost the game by 1-0 thanks to a 91st minute own goal. The end season 2017-18 Ligue 1 season, Angers placed 14th in the list and Cameroon forward Karl Toko Ekambi was crowned the top scorer with 17 goals during the competition.

The 2017-19 Ligue 1 season, Angers placed with a respectable 13th place in the list.

On the 8th of June, 20th, Angers broke their own transfer fee record when they signed Paul Bernardoni from Bordeaux in a deal that cost 8.3 million euro.

On April 30, 2021, Angers as well as Paris FC, were issued a transfer ban by FIFA in violation of FIFA regulations concerning relay transfers in August 2020. The ban took effect until the end of the 2021 summer transfer window.
