MAGDEBURG (Kyodo), Germany -- Daichi Kamada, a Japanese midfielder, scored a brace Monday as Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt began the season strong with a 4-0 win in the first round at Magdeburg.

Kamada scored the first goal from Filip Kostic’s cross just four minutes into the game. Jesper Lindstrom added a right-footed goal on the rebound in the 31stminute, giving Frankfurt a two-goal advantage going into the break.

Kamada struck again from the right side box just before the hour mark, making it 3-0. Substitute Lucas Alario added the fourth minute of regular-time time.

Eintracht will face champions Bayern Munich in Friday's Bundesliga 2022-2023 season opening match.

The DFB-Pokal, Germany's second most important club competition, is the first round fixture of the German Soccer Season. The DFB-Pokal winners are guaranteed a place in the Europa League.
