Sevilla loses again, stays winless to start Spanish league

Sevilla's woes continued with a 2-1 loss at Almeria, extending the team’s winless streak since the start of the Spanish league.

It was the third consecutive match that Sevilla had lost without a win. The match opened with a loss to Osasuna, and a draw at home with Valladolid.

After finishing fourth last season, Sevilla was high on expectations and remained near the top of the league for the first time.

However, the team's defensive problems have been costly this season. It lost Jules Kounde and Diego Carlos, its two main defenders. Julen Lopetegui's team has conceded five goals in its three first matches. The attack has scored three goals.

Lopetegui stated that "Unfortunately, we didn't get off the start we wanted, but that we have to put that behind us and continue to play every match as if they were our last."

Oliver Torres opened the scoring in Sevilla's 30th minute with a header. However, the hosts equalized through Largie RAMazani in 42 minutes and were able to go ahead thanks in part to Sadiq Umar in 55.

It was Almeria's first win in its return to the top division. The club, which is Saudi-owned, had been in the second division for seven seasons.

SOCIEDAD REBOUNDS

Real Sociedad was able to quickly overcome the departure from forward Alexander Isak, beating Elche 1-0 in its second victory.

Brais Mendez won the 20th match, the first since Isak left for Newcastle in England. He had played a nice through ball from Martin Zubimendi.

After missing a penalty kick at the 34th, Mikel Merino missed an opportunity to add to Sociedad’s lead.

Elche was still without a win after three rounds.

MALLORCA TRIUMPHS

After winning at Rayo Vallecano, Mallorca ended its winless streak 2-0.

Vedat Muriqi, Lee Kang-in were able to give Mallorca its first league win at Rayo in almost a decade.

Sunday's match will see Barcelona play Valladolid. Madrid, the defending champion, hosts Espanyol and Atletico Madrid plays Valencia.
