They would have liked McKennie to be available while Pogba is recovering, but like the Frenchman he was hurt on the team's preseason US tour and suffered a broken left shoulder.
Juventus released a statement Monday stating that Weston McKennie had undergone radiological examinations at J Medical [the club’s medical centre] this morning. The results revealed a capsular injury to the left shoulder. Three weeks of differentiated work will be required ."
Missed Real Madrid friendly
McKennie was absent from the final game in the Juventus tour. Real Madrid lost 2-0 at the Rose Bowl Pasadena on Saturday.
The Turin giants will begin their Serie A campaign against Sassuolo in August 15. Further games against Sampdoria Roma and Spezia will be played before the end.
McKennie will likely not be in August if he is doing rehab and solo exercise for three weeks.
Pogba to cast spell on the sidelines
Pogba appears to be an absentee too. Reports in Italy suggest that he may not play again until 2023, should the former Manchester United player need surgery.
McKennie, who made 21 Serie A appearances last season for Juventus, was being considered for a possible move away. There were a few Premier League clubs that McKennie could be interested in.
However, head coach Massimiliano Allgri stated in July that the club did not intend to sell the 23-year old former Schalke player.
