Homa's heroics turn close day into US rout in Presidents Cup

Max Homa felt more energized after a big putt Friday. Perhaps because he had never had so many people share in the celebration. This is why he made the Presidents Cup his top priority this year. His latest afternoon heroics at Quail hollow exceeded all expectations.

The final fourballs match was tied at two holes with only two holes left. The green was surrounded by American players, caddies, captains, and their red carts. Homa walked toward the hole and slammed it when he hit a 12-foot birdie putt to give him a 1-up lead.

It got even better. Taylor Pendrith was on point with a 15-foot birdie shot as the Internationals tried to tie the game. Homa delivered another 12-foot birdie to win. The matches felt closer. However, the outcome was not as expected. Homa's big putts in the final session allowed the Americans to win another session with a 4-1 margin. This brought the lead to 8-2.

Homa said, "It was pretty surreal," and improved to 2-0 in the debut. "The atmosphere out here is insane. You can feel the warmth of so many people that you can feel their backs on your neck.

Quail Hollow was jam-packed with 40,000 fans on a beautiful autumn day. Former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush were among those present. Five matches lasted 87 holes and the players had 67 birdies and 3 eagles. Three matches were even longer. The International team could only manage two halves. It now faces a daunting task against a U.S. side that appears well on its way for a ninth consecutive win in this lopsided affair, casino betting stated.

Trevor Immelman, International captain, stated that "We feel like our team has played some good golf, some solid tee to green golf, especially in the last few days." "But we have been out-putted. It is clear."

He was there when Billy Horschel and Homa dropped crucial putts down the stretch. Homa was just as clutch when Pendrith lost his birdie on last, making it appear that he and Corey Conners might be able to escape with a half point. Homa stated that although I was nervous about the putt, it was a lot of fun. "I was telling my wife that money can't buy the feeling when we talk about things that money can't buy. That was something I will always remember and I will tell anyone who asks how it felt.

The powerful American team will be playing double on Saturday to have a mathematical chance of winning the cup for the second consecutive time. Four matches of foursomes or fourballs are available. To win the cup, the Americans would need to win seven and halve one of the others. It sounds unlikely except for the fact that they have foursomes and fourballs, and how they play.

International teams led in one match -- Mito Perueira and Christiaan Betzuidenhout, for a total five holes -- which ended in a halve between Cameron Young and Kevin Kisner. International teams held a lead of just 10 holes over the two-day period.

The 12 Americans are amongst the top 25 golfers in the world, and most of them are playing like it. The International team was put together by Greg Norman, a former Presidents Cup captain.

Norman sent out a tweet wishing International well and accompanied by a picture of the team's win in 1998. "Outside all this angst, golf is golf, competitions are competitions; something every golfer thrives upon."

Immelman replied with "LOL" Immelman stated, "I pretty much say that it's exactly how I think it," "What I said was exactly how I was feeling when I saw that tweet. I laughed out loud.

A pair of dynamic partnerships was the key to the strength of America's team. Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele and Hideki Matsuyama were 5-up at turn and easily won a 3-and-2 victory over Tom Kim and Tom Kim. Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth improved to 6-2 as a group in Presidents Cup/ Ryder Cup matches. They won from the fourth hole in a 2-and-1 win over Cameron Davis and Adam Scott. Spieth, Thomas were as usual, nothing but the best.

They were tied at 2 with five holes left when Thomas hit 6-iron, just inches from an ace on par-3 14th over water to a pin for birdie. Just when it seemed that the International side might be closer, Spieth was ready to show his skills. On the 15th, his approach was to the stream. The stream hit the rocks and cut across the green into the rough. He chipped 15 feet and then putted to halve it.

The Spieth Thomas and Cantlay Schauffele teams are formed as much by their friendship as their games. They are 2-0 this week, and they are hard to beat no matter who the International team sends against them. The Presidents Cup rookies were the ones who brought out the passion.

Horschel said that he had felt sick for three hours before his match. Homa was there for the second consecutive day, and both reached the 18th green in front of a large crowd outside and inside the ropes. Homa stated, "It's surreal that 10 of the most talented golfers I've ever witnessed in my life are watching you and you have to help them." It's a heavy load. It's also very fun.
