Essex chairman steps aside pending review of social media posts

Azeem Akhtar, who was appointed as chairman of Essex County Cricket Club, has voluntarily resigned, just days after being appointed. This is in preparation for an independent review of historical posts made on social media.

Essex, who appointed Akhtar Monday, stated in a statement that they supported the decision. Stephen O'Brien was named interim chair. Essex stated that they are committed to tackling racism and discrimination and have a zero tolerance approach in this area, reported by online cricket betting.

All those involved with Essex want the Club to be a safe and welcoming environment where everyone can play a significant role in the future of Essex Cricket. In a separate statement, Akhtar stated that he wanted to demonstrate leadership by stepping aside "ensuring the club can concentrate on the ongoing challenges it's tackling".

John Faragher, the former chairman of Essex, resigned in November 2017 over a historical allegation that he used racial language at a board meeting back in 2017.

An independent Cricket Discipline Commission panel fined Essex 50,000 Pounds ($61,000) in May after Essex pleaded guilty to two charges related to that meeting. The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), also reprimanded the club and warned them about any further conduct. 15,000 pounds of the fine was suspended for two years.
