Chelsea sign Chukwuemeka from Villa on six-year deal

Chelsea has signed promising teenager midfielder Carney Chkwuemeka, Aston Villa's on a six year contract, both Premier League clubs announced on Thursday (Aug 4,).

On Tuesday, the teams announced that they had reached an understanding for the transfer. The England youth international was allowed to travel to London to discuss personal terms.

Although financial details of the transfer weren't disclosed, British media reported that the deal was worth 20,000,000 Pounds (US$24.35 Million).

Chukwuemeka, a Northampton Town native, joined Villa's academy in 2016. He made his senior debut in 2021. He was a part of the Birmingham-based club's 14th place finish in the league last year, playing 12 times.

"It's been quite chaotic but I couldn't get Chelsea from my head the past few days so I'm just happy that it's all over," Chukwuemeka (18), told Chelsea's website.

"I'm so excited, and can't wait for the pitch to meet all the players and win games and trophies together with Chelsea."

Chelsea's fourth signing in the current transfer window is Chukwuemeka. He won the Under-19 European Championships with England last month.

Thomas Tuchel's side has brought in Raheem Sterling, England's forward from Manchester City, and Kalidou Koulibaly, Senegal's defender from Napoli.

Chelsea completed Tuesday's move for Gabriel Slonina, a teenage goalkeeper. However, the American will remain on loan to the MLS side Chicago Fire through the 2022-23 season.

On Saturday, Chelsea will face Everton in their league campaign.
