Carlsen, Chess.com make opening moves in Niemann cheating claims lawsuit

Magnus Carlsen, the Norwegian chess champion, and Chess.com requested that a U.S. federal Court dismiss a $100 million libel lawsuit brought against them by Hans Niemann (a U.S. teenage grandmaster), who Carlsen had accused of cheating.

Carlsen and Daniel Rensch, executive at Chess.com, stated in their filings Niemann is an "admitted cheater" who failed to identify any defamatory comments made by them in their lawsuit in U.S. District Court.

After years of trying and curating a reputation of the bad boy of Chess, plaintiff Hans Niemann wants cash in by blaming other people for the fallout of his own admitted misconduct, Carlsen filed. Niemann's lawyers didn't immediately respond to our requests for comment.

Niemann, 19 years old, claimed in his lawsuit that the defendants "colluding with blacklist" him from professional Chess and that he was being shunned since Carlsen, 32 (five-time world champion), accused him of cheating at St Louis' Sinquefield Cup in St Louis. Missouri in September , report by ibcbet malaysia.

Carlsen's unexpected defeat and the unusual decision to withdraw from the tournament immediately set off a frenzy of speculation in the chess community that Carlsen believed Niemann had cheat. Later that month, scandal erupted when Carlsen resigned following one move in a match against Niemann at an online tournament. Carlsen released a statement stating that he believed Niemann had cheated more than he has publicly admitted.

After the first match against Carlsen, Chess.com banned Niemann and published a report stating that he had likely cheated more often than 100 times in online chess games. Niemann admitted cheating in online games when he was 12, 16 years old, but he denied cheating in tournaments that involved prize money. Tournament organizers claim they have not found any evidence Niemann cheated.
